When are instructional classes held?
We offer instructional classes every quarter (including summer) in the departments of Arts, Sports, Dance, Martial Arts, Aquatics, and Tennis. Class times range from morning to evening, with a majority beginning in the late afternoon. Our catalog, Rec Quarterly, is available online and at the John Wooden Center before the start of every quarter, and online registration begins a month before classes. How do I enroll in classes?
You can register for classes in one of two ways: online or in person. To register online, just visit our Online Store. To register in person, go to the Sales and Cashiering desk located on the first floor of the John Wooden Center.

Can I enroll in classes if I am not currently a UCLA student?
Yes. However, a UCLA Recreation membership is required for any instructional class. For more information regarding membership, click here.

Can I try out a class before I decide to register for it?
Yes! You may attend the first two classes of any program* by simply showing up and signing a waiver. However, after the first two classes, you may only participate if you are registered. Many classes, including Hip Hop, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu-Jistu fill up very quickly, so make sure to register early!

Can I enroll in a class if it is already full?
Some classes may be enrolled beyond capacity, but only at the discretion of the Instructional Programs Coordinator. If this is the case, you must first obtain an Add Slip from the class's instructor, which must then be signed by the IP Coordinator. From there, you can take the Add Slip to the Sales and Cashiering desk located inside the John Wooden Center to register.

Can I enroll in a class after it has begun?
Yes. However, online registration ends after the first class of each quarter. After that time, you can only register at the Sales and Cashiering Desk located inside the John Wooden Center. To register after the third week of classes is completed, you must first obtain an Add Slip from the class’s instructor.

Can I transfer from one class to another if I have already registered?
Yes. As long as the class you are transferring into is not full, you may submit a completed Transfer Request Form to the Sales and Cashiering Desk located inside the John Wooden Center. Any difference in price between the classes will either need to be paid or may be refunded to you.

Do I need any special equipment for my first day of class?
No special equipment is required for any instructional classes. However, in some classes, certain pieces of equipment or clothing are recommended to enhance your experience and keep you safe. You can see these items listed at the bottom of any of our classes' web pages under "Recommended Items". As for all of our instructional classes, we recommend you wear comfortable athletic clothing, and any shoes must have non-marking soles.

Will I lose my spot if I am ever absent from class?
No. We understand that you have many commitments, so you will never be punished for missing a class. As long as you are registered, your spot is secure for the entire quarter.

What if the class I am enrolled in gets canceled?
We can transfer you in a different class, as long as it is not already full. For this you would need to submit a completed Transfer Request Form to the Sales and Cashiering Desk located inside the John Wooden Center. Refunds may be granted under certain circumstances.
