Bruin-Bike Library (Quarterly Rentals)

Thanks to UCLA Transportation, UCLA Recreation, The Green Initiative Fund, and the UCLA Graduate Students' Association Sustainable-Resource-Center, currently-enrolled students can rent a bicycle for the entire quarter.  For only $45, the Felt-Cafe-8 bicycle comes complete with a helmet, U-lock, and a front and rear light.  We also offer students $45 quarterly rentals from our small fleet of electric bicycles (Sanyo Eneloop).  Quarterly rentals may be reserved using the process detailed in the following paragraphs.

              Bruin Bike

Reserving a Bruin Bike for the Quarter

You must be a student currently enrolled at UCLA to rent a bike for the quarter from the Bruin-Bike Library.

For Spring Quarter 2013, Bruin Bikes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis starting at Noon on Monday, April 1st, 2013.  You may reserve a bike in person at the Sales-and-Cashiering Desk in the John-Wooden Center.  Starting Tuesday, April 2nd, registration will also be available on-line (type "Bruin-Bike" into the search field to display the classes).

Please note that there are three fleets of bikes: Bruin-Bike Library (Undergraduate Rental), Bruin-Bike Library (Graduate Rental), Electric Bruin-Bike Library (both undergraduate and graduate students).  It is important that you register for the appropriate class (i.e., the Undergraduate-Rental class, if you're an undergraduate student and the Graduate-Rental class, if you're a graduate student).  If you register for the Undergraduate-Rental class and are not an undergraduate, your registration will be refunded and, if space is no longer available in the Graduate-Rental class, you may not be able to get a bike for that quarter.  This procedure applies also to undergraduate students who register for the Graduate-Rental class.  To avoid complications and make sure you get a bike, simply register for the proper class.

Picking up Bruin Bikes

Within a few days of successfully reserving a Bruin Bike, you will receive an e-mail scheduling an appointment for you to visit the UCLA Bike-Shop to fill out a Bike-Library Rental-Agreement and pick up a bike, lock, helmet, and lights.  Pick-up days will be scheduled for the beginning of the week of January 15th.

How to lock your Bruin Bike

To lock your Bruin Bike, the U-lock should connect the bike frame to the bike rack where you are parking.  It is very important that the U-lock secures the bike frame and not just one of the wheels.  In addition, the end loops of the cable lock should be connected to the U-lock and run through both wheels.  An alternative way to lock your bike is to hook the U-lock through the bike frame, the bike rack, and the front wheel.  In this arrangement, the end loops of the cable should be connected to the U-lock and run through the back wheel.

Daily/Weekend/Weekly Rentals

We have six bicycles available for rent on a daily, weekend, or weekly basis.  These Felt-Cafe-24 bicycles come with a helmet, U-lock, a front and rear light, and panniers.  Daily rentals start between 10am and 3pm, then must be returned the next day between 10am and 3pm. Weekend rentals start on the day before the weekend between 10am and 3pm, then must be returned by the first day of the following week between 10am and 3pm.  Weekly rentals start between 10am and 3pm, then must be returned six days later between 10am and 3pm.  If you are interested in renting a bike, please visit us during our business hours (M-F, 10am to 3pm) to check availability and pay to make a reservation.
