What's the Plan for the New KREC?


We are excited to announce KREC is relocating to a new and improved dedicated fitness center to be located in northwest end of Parking Lot 36. Some of the new and exciting features will include: 

 

  • Just steps away from the current location maintaining the benefit of campus walking distance, BruinBus shuttle stop at Lot 36, and many bicycle options
  • New floor layout to feature a 30% increase in cardio exercise equipment with new treadmills and ellipticals
  • An approximately 70% increase in strength training options with additional equipment including squat racks and barbells
  • New highly requested items such as heavy punching bags and multi station pull up bars
  • Expanded functional training zone with a large courtyard
  • Improved locker rooms, social areas, and meeting spaces

What Happened with the Old KREC?


The existing Kinross Building (including the old KREC) closed for renovation on:

                                                          December 16, 2016 at 5:00 P.M.

As a result of the projected construction timeline, we anticipate an exciting grand opening of the new KREC in early Summer 2017. We greatly value and appreciate the Graduate Student Association for their advocacy, and after consulting with graduate student focus groups and members, we are pleased to announce a variety of options to keep you active and healthy during the period of construction, with instructions on how to opt in:  

 

  • Complimentary Access to John Wooden Center (JWC) - Opens automatically to KREC members on Saturday, December 10th.  No action is required.  Facility Hours
  • Complimentary access to the Bruin Fitness Center (BFIT) - located in Carnesale Commons (This new facility offers over 14,000 square feet of cardio, strength, and conditioning areas).  Opens automatically to graduate students and KREC members on Sunday, January 8th 2017.  No action is required. Facility Hours
  • Classes at Weyburn Commons - Graduate students and KREC Members may enroll for low impact exercise and activity classes held at Weyburn Commons.  Participants may register in-person at the John Wooden Center Sales & Service - Cashiering Office or through the UCLA Recreation online store.  Registration will open Wednesday, March 15 for Spring Quarter classes.
  • Complimentary access to Westwood Village fitness Center - We're pleased to announce our partnership with LA Fitness on the corner of Gayley Ave and Wilshire Blvd as an alternate fitness facility.  Transactions for UCLA patrons who wish to opt in to the alternate fitness facility during KREC’s relocation are initiated and processed only through UCLA Recreation Sales & Service. Any transactions with the alternate fitness facility are subject to their terms and conditions. Registration details
  • Complimentary Group Fitness Pass - Graduate students and KREC 1-zone members may register for a Spring Quarter fitness pass in-person at the John Wooden Center Sales & Service - Cashiering Office beginning Monday, April 3, 2017. Renewals for Winter Quarter fitness passes will be emailed on Wednesday, March 15.
  • KREC Recreation Membership Changes -KREC Recreation members may adjust or cancel their KREC membership and/or other Recreation services by completing a membership refund/transfer request form.  Forms may be returned in-person, by email, or by fax.
